Force for Chaos

"They will submit. They will die."

Overview

The Force for Chaos role is a system for players and the Story Team to help shake things up. It exists as route to an antagonistic force towards all player factions.

Forces for Chaos are not necessarily ideologically Chaotic or Evil, they are simply antagonists. If it makes sense towards the sim story and will shake things up, these can be Lawful and even Good aligned - so long as the restrictions are still followed.

By design, the Forces for Chaos cannot cooperate with player factions. They are here to shake up the status quo and give room for mobility, not to enshrine a different faction as the de facto top dog. This can be represented in various ways in the role's backstory (religious fanatics that consider everyone else lost, nigh feral monsters that attack everyone on sight, megalomaniacs that want to burn everyone else down, etc.)

As part of this role, the Force for Chaos will become its own mini-faction, with extra storyteller resources, special items, NPC support, and the ability to bring along a small group of other players.

Notes

  • Force for Chaos characters can be of any race.

  • These characters must have a goal stated at creation. This goal can be a larger or overarching goal, but must be feasibly achievable within a two month time span. This mission may be changed by working with the story team after completion or significant roleplay changes.

  • These characters must make a concerted good faith effort to achieve that goal over the course of their time. Failure to make that effort will be considered Bad Acting and enforced appropriately.

  • These characters must communicate openly and honestly about ongoing RP with Storytellers, and keep them apprised of any OOC problems that may occur.

  • These characters have a limited lifespan, and should not be expected to be played for longer than a few weeks or months. If inactive or not performing their function these characters will be retired.

  • These characters cannot join, create, or ally with factions.

  • These characters are given additional story support and starting items, and are brought in at or above the average level of the sim.

  • These characters are not allowed to flee from combat, excepting the automatic flee for going to 0 HP.

  • These characters may not be looted after combat like normal characters. Instead, the player who defeated them will get a special Storyteller reward item, even if the Force for Chaos manages to flee.

  • These characters are given an NPC allowance that they can use to attack people and generally cause chaos.

  • These characters can not take over control nodes, but can return them to neutral status.

  • These characters may have up to three player-character lieutenants, and must be hostile to all established player factions. Lieutenants also lose their reasonable right to life.

  • If there are empty slots amongst Lieutenants, these characters may ICly recruit promising candidates. They may not be courting significantly more candidates than they have empty Lieutenant slots, but can treat candidates without hostility.

  • Force for Chaos characters may not give items away for nothing except to their Lieutenants. They are allowed to trade for goods and services that assist with their goals at fair market value, provided they are not trading with a faction.

  • A high degree of system knowledge is required to play this role in order to be effective. Those without that knowledge will be asked to play another role first.

  • These characters can still pursue personal storylines with other characters. They are not NPCs, and are still characters in play. Force for Chaos characters are there to upset the status quo, not just to be people's "Monster of the Week".
