Good Aligned Darklings

"I'd rather be a little nobody than an evil somebody."

Overview

It is not uncommon for a Darkling to be good. What is uncommon is for them to remain good and remain alive into adulthood. These individuals are typically either extremely lucky or extremely traumatized (or both), or else were taken as a child and raised away from the culture of their kin. Regardless, truly good adult Darklings are a rarity, one oft believed impossible amongst the more rural settlements, and still considered suspect in major metropolises.

Notes

  • See the individual pages for racial information on each Darkling.

  • Good Darklings typically repudiate the society of their kin for highly specific reasons.

  • Consider what kind of pushback your character would have received - what punishment for "weakness" they had to endure or avoid.

  • Consider what parts of their society they could not shake. A good orc and a good human raised in their societies would still have different morals.

Role Examples

  • An orc shaman who turned to protecting life after a godly vision.

  • A hobgoblin raised among humans who joined a city watch.

  • A goblin that got adopted by a group of gnomes and learned to channel their chaos for good.

  • A drow who grew disillusioned with the power structure of her society, seeking a better way.
