Races & Roles

Orcrest is a setting of diversity, with many races, character archetypes, and supernatural creatures from a wide array of cultural influences. In order to keep everything within a singular, believable world, races and roles have specific standards that must be adhered to. You must be aware of these standards, and ensure your avatar keeps to them before jumping into play.

The world in which Orcrest is set is inspired by various fantasy settings, but uses its own ruleset and lore. While many things are comparable to their counterparts in other settings, many are not, and it should not be assumed that what is true in other settings is true here. If there are questions not answered on the race or role pages below, or elsewhere on this site, Staff would be happy to answer them to ensure everyone is playing in the same world.

Standard and Requirements

  • Characters in Orcrest must obey the Avatar Guidelines and the Physical Characteristics listed with their race.

  • Characters can not have great political, economical, social, magical, or other uncommon power unless earned IC through play or specified in the role or race description.

Common Races

Any of the following common races may be played without application:

The Darklings

Darklings may not be Good

(But do not have to be Evil)

Limited Availability Characters

Limited Availability Characters represent races or roles that are rare, abnormal, powerful, or fantastical. They are things that are meant to exist in the world, but not be commonplace. Their limited availability is to keep them special, and to allow the sim to give those characters more story and mechanical support.

Limited Availability Characters must be applied for, and playing anything on this list without an application is forbidden.

Notes and Limitations

  • Limited Characters do not have a Reasonable Right to Life. These characters are vulnerable to being killed at all times, for any reason, though that does not stop there being IC consequences for such an action.

  • Limited Characters come with an activity commitment. If a character is not being played regularly, players will be warned and eventually their slot will be deactivated.

  • Limited Character slots are dynamic, as characters die their slots will not be immediately opened, and may not be opened for several more rounds. Slots will be opened depending on what the staff feel the sim needs, and what fits the current RP.

  • Limited Characters slots will be put up in batches. Players will be given a time period to apply, and staff will work with players to improve, fix, and solidify applications where necessary. After the application period, all applications that meet a quality threshold will be put into a raffle, and the slots will be given out based on those results.

  • In some circumstances, when a player has concluded a large, difficult, or stressful storyline (such as being killed after a large faction war), or has otherwise significantly contributed to the story of other characters, Staff may approach them to offer a Limited Character slot. This is not a guarantee, and Staff are not omniscient or monitoring every storyline on sim.

  • While a Limited Character may take up multiple limited roles (for example, a Noble who is a Force for Chaos), each player may only have one Limited Character slot.
