The Kingdom of Elm

The Kingdom of Elm is a former territory of greater Orsfel, a successor Kingdom of collapsed Nuumalon. The Mallar royal family declared themselves an independent Kingdom after the death of the Orsfel Royal Krell family line. Elm eventually absorbed most of the greater Orsfel region which had been cut in half by a violent civil war because of its strong economic position close to the Eol river. However, Elm has never been as large as Orsfel at its collapse.

Like most of the Northern Kingdoms West of The Eol river, The Kingdom of Elm is a land of coarse men and shepherds and most of its territory stretches into rolling hills and rough terrain. As a small nation, Elm has historically been neutral in most political dealings, and The Elmish were often characterized as argumentative, belligerent, and oafish; "Sheep-fuckers, all" by their more refined neighbors.

It wasn't until a series of wars and skirmishes with the expansionist Empire of Aer Arnad that Elm began allying with the Western Kingdoms, resulting in the ultimate defeat of two Legions at The Red Fjord (a site of several historical battles during invasions from and into the west by and against Aer Arnad), which would, eventually become the location of Redford village and a gated fortification and bridge between Elm and it's defeated neighbor which has, thus far prevented further incursions.

The people in Elm's heartland are untrusting of outsiders, and suspicious of those who are not their countrymen though those peoples closest to the Eol river such as small mercantile hams like Redford - which are the lifeblood of House Mallar's Kingdom - are welcoming of merchants and seek to trade their heavy furs and sheep-skins for the finer things from other lands.
