The history of Aer Arnad is the history of the Elven People.

While elves now make up a minority of that empire's population, Aer Arnad is perhaps their greatest achievement. Aer Arnad translates roughly to the common tongue as 'beneath Arnad'; and The Imperial House of Arnad is a House of Avariel Elven Emperors that have ruled now uninterrupted for several thousand years.

Elves arrived in numbers from the dream world of the Feywilds after the collapse of the first human empire; driven to destruction by elemental dragons that would rule as god-kings. The elves defended mankind against the dragons, taught men the ways of steel and spell, and led them in driving back their predators over thousands of years.

Once the dragons had been defeated, Aedar Arnad IV of the line from whom the empire takes its name, having conquered all the lands that were his wont, drove out all of the dragons to the Blasted Wastes and assumed the mantle of ruler of the world, saw fit to declare himself a god in defiance of those who had abandoned mankind to the predations of dragons.

The gods were quite angered by this, and punished The Winged Celestial Emperor and his Empire fiercely, destroying the Emperor's armies and cities. This event was known as The First Heresy. Aedar's heir, Aedar Arnad V assumed throne. It was nearly a thousand years later that the House of Arnad would again challenge the gods, with the imprisonment of Doerlia, goddess of Justice by Emperor Derelan Arnad, and Queen Mother Urgath Arnad attempting to steal the divinity of Liyúvië, patron god of the elves.

A combined alliance of Men, Elves and Dwarves freed the imprisoned Doerlia, killed the Emperor and drove out Queen Mother Urgath and her followers who later became The Drow. In spite of twice challenging the gods, an Avariel Emperor of House Arnad yet sits upon the throne of Aer Arnad nearly two thousand years after The Second Heresy, much humbled and in full difference to the gods, and oft shrinking from ambition in their lonely aerie towers.

High-Elven Sorcerer lords continue to rule what remained of Elven Dominion in the name of the Winged Emperor of House Arnad, and it was from among these High Elves (essentially Imperial Guard for The Empire) that Natyli Elosriad was born, raised, and trained in statecraft. As the Empire crumbled in the face of numerous assaults from human nations on all sides and rebellions from within, it was she who cut her twenty feet of golden hair with her sword and stepped out from the island capital of Helmrast to bring order to the chaos and raise the elven people from their reverie of regret.
